Before Your Appointment

This procedure will be performed using local anesthesia. In most cases, there are no restrictions afterward regarding driving or returning to work. A doctor will be available at all times should any concerns or complications arise after your treatment.

Medications

  • Please continue all medications for blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid conditions, or any other chronic health issues as prescribed by your physician.

  • If you’re unsure about whether to take a specific medication before your appointment, please call our office in advance.

Eating

  • Please eat a full breakfast or lunch prior to your visit, depending on the time of your appointment.

Antibiotic Premedication

If your physician or dentist has advised you to take antibiotic premedication for any of the following conditions:

  • Mitral valve prolapse (MVP)

  • Heart murmur

  • Prosthetic heart valves or joints (e.g., hip or knee replacements)

  • Rheumatic heart disease
Please make sure to take the prescribed antibiotic on the day of your appointment. If you have questions about this, don’t hesitate to contact us ahead of time.

Pain Medication Guidelines

  • If you’re coming in for a consultation, we prefer that you do not take pain medication beforehand, so we can better assess your symptoms.

  • If you’ve already been diagnosed and scheduled for treatment at our office, we recommend taking:

    • Ibuprofen (Advil),

    • Acetaminophen (Tylenol), or

    • Naproxen Sodium (Aleve)
as directed, about one hour before your appointment.
